Recycle for Cork City FC with GYG.ie!

‘Cork City FC are becoming a force to be reckoned with this season.  Long known to be one of the best supported teams in the country, their performance of late is doing justice to that support, and next week they will be asking their supporters and friends alike to Go Green for Cork City FC!

They have launched their new Green jersey last week, proudly supported by another Cork favourite, Clonakilty Black Pudding, and next Monday 50,000 Freepost envelopes will be distributed through Cork paper the Evening Echo, at the Cork City grounds, and through local supporting businesses Lennox’s, Satellite taxis and 96FM.

Cork City’s busy Chief Executive Tim Murphy, is helping to co-ordinate the fundraising drive, (in between relentless phone calls!), and says

‘This is a great time of year for this event, given the start of this very important season for us and Spring cleaning in the air.  Anyone can help support us by putting their unwanted mobile phones, iPods, games or even DVDs into the Green Freepost envelopes and putting in the post or dropping off at the Cork City grounds or in the stores in Douglas or in Carrolls on Patrick street.’

Cork City are hoping to raise up to €10,000 through the fundraising drive but the only way they can do this is by as many of the envelopes being filled and sent as possible.  The better the phone, iPod or game, the more its worth to Cork City FC.  Cork company gyg.ie are the company responsible for turning the items into value and their director Barry Walsh explained the process:

‘Its simple really – there is a huge national and international market for lower priced phones, games and DVDs, and it is through the resale of items collected in these markets that we can earn funds for Cork City FC.  Its really a win-win for everyone: Cork City FC get some much needed funds, customers get lower priced phones, games and DVDS, its good for the environment as it reduces waste of resources and people get to clear their cupboards of old stuff!’

So grab an envelope or 2, pop the best items you can into them and drop into a postbox or to the  Cork City FC stores or grounds and GreenYourGoods will turn them into funds for CCFC.  The fundraising drive will continue for the next 6 weeks.
